Book Review #4

     The non-fiction book "Something to Declare" by Julia Alvarez is mainly about how the author is drastically affected by the fleeing dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. There was many serviles at her home so she came to a place where she knew she wouldnt have to worry about dictatorship, America. She had to be trained to speak english from spanish and watched many American shows to learn about the American life. Alvarez wrote this from her perspective to construe what she struggles she had as an immigrant to a citizen in New York City. The author has come to many genius qualities in her book. For example, one genius quality she has is sensitivity, always sensitive about herself compared to the Americans. In "Something to Declare", it states, "I grew insecure about Spanish. My native tongue was not quite as good as English, ..". This shows that she wasn't sure if her spanish was good enough in her new home. Alvarez knew she had to abide to the American laws which stopped her drinking problems. In addition, her demeanor revolves around her life since how she acts towards others matters most. Another genius quality she has is wonder. Alvarez is always wondering about the difference of her old home and her now home at New York. She finds new interests and new American hobbies from wondering and experiencing new things. This genius quality connects to another one she has in reality, vitality. She's always engaged in every activity so she can fit in and she  actually enjoys doing it. This autobiography was interesting and imparted me what kind of person the author really was, knowing the struggles she went through.

Book Review #3

      The novel " Anne Frank; The Diary of a Young Girl " is mainly about how Anne Frank survived a difficult time period with her family trying to survive from Nazis and escape them, involving World War II. She tries to express her struggles in relation to her family and the outside world. Anne wrote this from her perspective to construe what those struggles were. Anne has many genius qualities in this novel. For instance, one of the genius qualities is curiosity. She's always curious about things and what the Nazi's going to do when they find out that her and her family are living in hiding. At that time, Anne and her people were servile. To keep her head up, Anne had many virtues to show everybody she can smile even through the dangerous struggles so she can make others smile. There's a huge number of wade from people dying of disease during that time. Assumingly, her family loathed the Nazis because of what they were doing to innocent people. Another genius quality Annie has is joy, this quality keeps her from thinking negative and putting others in negative moods. If she's joyful, everybody will be joyful even with all the things going on. Most of these genius qualities reveal who they really are, they're inner self from their characterization. In addition, another genius quality Anne Frank has is vitality. This quality shows that Anne is always energetic & alive while writing her diary. Even though she was going through an awkward age and diffcicult time period, she kept her head for her own sake and espically for her family.

Book Review #2

              The novel "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold is mostly about how this girl named Susie was raped and murdered by her neighbor, while the police are still trying to figure out who killed her. She's having trouble settling in Heaven when she's not with her family, and whats really bothering her is nobody knows who and how she died. She wants to demonstrate for her family who killed her and give them evidence. She knows the police are having the wrong implications and isn't suspecting the right person. Susie has many genius qualities that helps her through her situation. For example, one of the genius qualities she has is wonder. On page 10, it states " ... and it was warm, and I wanted to know how he had built it, what the mechanics of the thing were and where'd he learned to do something like that."To the police or her parents, her murderer is identifiable. This shows how she was wondering things about him. In the beginning, she was wondering alone in the afternoon, when her neighbor invited her into his home, so she was a bit creeped out but was still wondering why. This is also curiosity which is another genius quality she has. Susie's always curious of what her neighbor wanted with her and how life is without her while she's in heaven.  Susie's actions, thoughts, and dialogue helps her genius qualities because it shows who she is. She had insights of what earth with her family was like without her. Another genius quality she has is playfulness. Susie plays with other girls in heaven trying to settle in like I mentioned a while ago, and also when she was alive, she played with little sister. On page 32, it states "Make her laugh..". This shows how how she played around. Susie knew it was her objective to help her family and the police to figure out how she died and who murdered her.

Book Review #1

           The novel "The Outsiders" by S.E Hinton was mainly about this teenager living with his two older brothers and is trying to stop a gang from harassing them and others. The teenager, Ponyboy has many genius qualities that help him stop the gang, the Greasers. For instance, one of the genius qualities he has are curiosity and also wonder. From page, 79 of The Outsiders, it states "I had almost dreamed the outside world ..." This shows that he curious about the outside world and wondering what would happen in later in the future. I also noticed how significant he is, looking to be important in his family. Also, later in book, it sounds like Ponyboy wants a transition of himself. Other characters like Dally, Ponyboy's oldest brother, have the genius quality of wisdom. " Yet, in his hand face there was character pride, and a savage defiance of the world" was stated in page 59. This shows that behind his appearances, he has more pride in himself and more knowledge. Also it shows that he's always clarified and is less clueless than the others. He's the sophisticated type of brother, always organized too. The genius qualities are revealed in the characters' actions, thought, feelings, and dialogue, by expressing the characters feelings and words. I've learned more about myself by these genius qualities by showing me who I act and who I am. In addition, I'v also learned more about the society on the genius qualities because most people in the society have half these qualities and sometimes they try to change that, to change who they are. This book became very interesting and  relevant in the subjects.

I am a Genius

           One of the genius quality I have is imagination. This quality applies to me because most of the times alone, I imagine things in the future or things that won't really happen but I want it to, get me? Imagination really comes from hope, and thats important in life. Usually children imagine things more than adults because they have more fantasy and beliefs. For example, when it comes to me, I close my eyes or even day dream, and imagine things that might happen or things that won't ever happen, beyond imagination sometimes.  I also think dreams also come from imagination. We think about it and then we imagine it in our dreams. Imagination is not something you think about really hard, it just comes to you, when your staring at something and go off to wonderland.  For instance, my imagination is usually positive but for others, it can be negative too. They imagine things with fear, but I imagine things differently, happily.
